Información sobre la institución

Brunel is a world-class university based in Uxbridge, West London. Born just over 40 years ago, Brunel´s distinctive mission has always been to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by our namesake Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

As befits a university with Brunel´s history and reputation, research is at the heart of all we do. It underpins and contributes to the generation of most of our taught courses. Moreover, Brunel´s research ethos generates a culture of intellectual endeavour that is fundamental to the achievement and success of all students and staff of the University; it also encourages the cross-fertilisation of ideas and expertise for which we have long been famous.

The University is nearing completion of its £250 million campus redevelopment programme and now possesses an impressive range of modern, state-of-the-art facilities, including:

* UEFA-class football facilities, competition-standard athletics complex and refurbished sports and fitness centre;
* Extended library building, holding a hugely increased book and journal collection, more computer workstations and group study areas, an Assistive Technology Centre for disabled students, and a café;
* 34 halls of residence, including a new residential complex that brings our on-campus accommodation up to 4,549 rooms;
* New Health Sciences and Social Care building, opened by Her Majesty the Queen;
* Spectacular new Engineering and Design annex and atrium, including an impressive exhibition space;
* Student facilities complex with a stunning atrium entrance opening onto a dining space, bars, the Students´ Union and retail outlets.

Services & Facilities

Brunel is a campus-based university situated in Uxbridge, West London, and is home to nearly 15,000 students from over 100 countries worldwide. Founded in 1966, our distinctive mission is to combine teaching and research excellence with the practical and entrepreneurial approach pioneered by its namesake, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Study facilities and support

Brunel is constantly updating its academic facilities with state-of-the-art information and teaching resources.

The Library contains the majority of resources needed to successfully work and study here, while the Computer Centre, Media Services and Technology Enhanced Learning provide facilities to enhance learning and personal development.

For some, adjusting to the independent study expected on a university course can be quite daunting, and all students can make the most of the learning support opportunities available to help develop skills and confidence.

The Library

The Library has benefited from major investment, and now offers: an extensive collection of books, journals and other information; online databases, eBooks and over 16,000 eJournals available through the Library website; 1,200 study spaces and nearly 300 PCs; WiFi capability throughout the building inductions, information skills training and one-to-one support to help you find and use the resources you need.

Each academic School has a Subject Librarian who looks after the information needs of students and staff. They will be happy to answer any questions that you have and help you find the information you need.

The Computer Centre

Everyone at Brunel uses the Computer Centre's services - email, software, Internet access and much more.

Your username allows you access to facilities including: a generous filestore allocation, where you may keep your work securely; an email account for all your University correspondence; Brunel's virtual learning environment; access to the University network from your own computer, including in halls or through a campus wi-fi connection; and the Brunel intranet, which contains course information, support and news.

PC work areas are available across campus, and some are open 24 hours a day.

Sport and fitness

Students of all abilities, from complete beginners to elite athletes, are encouraged to make the most of our outstanding sports facilities.

With over £14 million invested in a new sports and fitness complex, we now have some of the best university sports facilities around. Over 40 sports are on offer, so there’s something for everyone.

For a list of sports clubs plus details of how to buy your sports federation card, see the Students' Union sports pages.

Our sporting tradition

Brunel is not only a centre of excellence in the academic study of sport sciences, but also in the achievements of its students. This is illustrated by the number of graduates, students and staff across the University who have represented their country as competitors and coaches.

Brunel is part of the English Institute of Sport network, and partnerships with top local sports clubs also give you opportunities to develop your talents beyond the University's boundaries.

The Arts

The Arts occupy an important position at Brunel. Dance, music, drama, media production and the visual arts are all catered for at a range of ability levels.

The Arts Centre

The Arts Centre provides the space, tuition and specialist equipment required for your creative skills to flourish. It offers a variety of arts activities for all students, staff and members of the public, including:

* a vibrant performing arts programme with weekly evening and lunchtime music recitals as well as theatre and dance;

* courses in drama, music, dance and the visual arts, as well as concerts, theatre productions, exhibitions and activities, many of which are provided free of charge to students;

* high-quality and up-to-date facilities.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students who are not studying music as part of their academic course can also apply for Music Awards, to help cover the cost of continuing your music tuition.
